History

Aviation has always been about wonder. From the first time someone watched birds wheeling and turning in the unseen air and tried to imagine the world from their perspective - or gazed into a sky filled with billowing cotton clouds and pondered what a cloud felt like - aviation has filled man with wonder. It was that wonder that drove man to the skies and it's wonder that keeps him there long after the bird's eye view has become commonplace and the mystery of the clouds has been revealed.

Two women amazed by that same wonder undertook to reach for the sky and in the process came to share a dream. Angel and Karen are each women who have enjoyed much in their respective lives. Both are successful businesswomen - both are actively involved in community service and most importantly both are raising a family. Though one was born and raised in Arizona and the other came from Pennsylvania, their mutual interest in aviation brought them together.

In the spring of 1998 Karen's husband, Dan, purchased a gift certificate for flying lessons at a silent auction fundraiser with the intent of presenting it as a gift to a friend. The friend agreed to learn to fly only if Dan would undertake to do so as well. One flight was all it took and Dan was determined that he was going to become a pilot! Unfortunately, a previous heart condition kept Dan from completing his training and earning his Pilot Certificate. After seeing numerous appeals to the FAA for a Medical Certificate denied, Karen offered to become a pilot so that together she and Dan could fly. (Note: Dan has now passed his medical and obtained his Private Pilot License)

On the other hand Angel, along with her husband Alan, had moved west some years before to raise their children in the environment that Arizona living affords. Alan, though not a pilot himself, had relatives who were aviators and decided to present Angel with flying lessons as a birthday gift. That was "all she wrote". Angel was hooked!

Karen and Angel became fast friends while taking ground school together. It wasn't hard as they were the only women in the class. They soon found themselves comparing notes and facing the challenges of aviation academics together. In short time their friendship grew to include their husbands. The vision of Angel Air was born of this friendship. The shared wonder of two women who undertook the challenge of flight and mastered it. They, along with their husbands, grew and fostered the vision that has now become a reality.

Angel Air is no longer a vision though much vision continues at Angel Air. With eleven aircraft and a skilled and experienced staff, Angel Air has begun making its own history. So stand back and watch us fly... or better yet, come join us. We'll show you what a cloud feels like.
